The first RV-A-10 rocket flew in February 1953, followed by three launches in March. The four test flights demonstrated a range of 68 miles and an altitude of 36 miles. The 7790 pound rocket generated 32,000 pounds of thrust for nearly 30 seconds, for a total impulse of around 800,000 Pound-seconds, near that of the Scout’s third stage (that’s a V140,000-0, high power freaks). Control could be provided by vanes in the rocket exhaust and control surfaces on the fins, however, the four flight test models flew unguided.
